Magic Kingdom

*** Main St.

On the upper level of the train station are some coin activated but hand cranked flip-card movie machines, trademarked Mutoscope. Also drop a quarter in to get a rousing musical performance from a nickelodeon piano. There has been a coin operated machine with a miniature soccer game, also (2/10).

At the Main St. Fire House next to City Hall is a display of firefighter shirt and jacket patches, donated by firefighters from across the U.S. (5/10)

In the Main St. buildings the upper floor offices and rooms themselves are "nothing special" (5/08).

Also, Main St. slopes slightly up as you head towards the castle; the uphill walk is not as tiring early in the day while the downhill walk towards the exit makes the end of the day seem easier (5/08).

Walt designed the park so when you pass from land to land, you don't readily see the others. For example if you were in Liberty Square, you can't see Fantasyland. Trees, buildings and items such as the water wheel distract your view (5/08). However the roof of Enchanted Tiki Birds can be easily seen from Frontierland so it is decorated to blend in there too (2/10).

They give out picture cards (trading cards) of the various transportation vehicles including the monorail trains. Ask the CM's working outside on Main St. although not all of them have the cards (2/10).

*** Adventureland

The tarantula in the cage in the Jungle Cruise waiting area will twitch every now and then and make you think it is real. After the ride, notice footprints of the peg legged pirate on the moving walkway (2/10).

[We] asked a CM about the medallion from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, and he kindly directed [us] to where it was located, and even pointed out Davy Jones' key! (2/10)

[I] think the other artifact is the key to the chest, it's on the opposite side of the gift shop from the medallion necklace.(2/10)

The Enchanted Tiki Room has a preshow just outside with animatronic birds (2/10).

*** Fantasy Land

You can ask to ride up front in Its A Small World... the CM's don't mind one bit and that way the child can see much better! (3/10)

*** Cinderella Castle

*** Frontierland

For Pecos Bill's there is some additional seating on the other side of the building past the rest rooms and down a narrow corridor. (3/10)

*** Liberty Square

When you first step into the Haunted Mansion, before entering the stretch rooms, look closely at the picture frames, the design is a bunch of hidden Mickeys.

(3) Two of the Mansion's more famous catchphrases -- "foolish mortals" and "grim grinning ghosts" -- are taken from Shakespeare: In "A Midsummer Night's Dream", Puck exclaims, "Lord, what fools these mortals be!" In "Venus and Adonis", Shakespeare refers to death as a "Grim-grinning ghost" (5/10).

(3) One reader interprets the Haunted Mansion this way:  If you pay close attention during the ride, none of the ghosts are aware of you until you come to a part in the ride where there's a bride and she supposedly pushes you out of the attic window. [I] believe that is the part in the ride with the steep decline. the reason the ghosts dont notice you until then is because [we] are supposed to be dead at this point due to the fall and now [we] are one of them! Then you enter the party scene ([I] guess they're welcoming you to the graveyard) and that's when they acknowledge you for the first time! Isnt that cool? [I] cant wait to look for that next time! (3/10)

If you listen carefully, you may hear the train play the "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" song at Frontierland and Toontown Fair. Also the riverboat at Tom Sawyer's Island may play that song (2/10).

*** Tomorrowland

(3) It's really hard to find any kind of a funny story. On Tomorrowland Transit Authority, in the bus stop as it's called (right after the city of tomorrow) there is a robot holding a green tube/paper thing in his hand. If you look at the top of the green thing, you will notice a small rim of red. A cast member told [me] that it is a horn that you blow on New Years Eve. Walt put his initials and the date on it and stuck it in there. (3/10)

*** Mickey's Toontown Fair -- Is undergoing extensive remodeling.

*** More Ceremonies

(You may have to try more than once as is not performed every night) Linger in the park in front of the castle about 30 minutes after the park closing. You'll be treated to the "kiss goodnight" from the castle...something really cool to see. (Buses and monorails run for at least an hour after park closing time, a little longer if guests are outside still waiting. But after an hour don't straggle too far behind.)

*** Parade Viewing

Tiny things you can look for on the parade floats (in order of appearance):

*  The Mickey float has many small figurines of the Mouse's past film roles (Sorcerer's Apprentice, Steamboat Willie, etc.)

*  Figaro and Cleo can be found if you look closely on the Pinocchio float (I think they're on the left side of the float)

*  On the Aladdin float, look closely just behind Pooh and you'll see the very tiny Bernard and Bianca from 'The Rescuers'.

*  On the Peter Pan float, look inside the crystal castle to see tiny versions of characters on a carrousel (ones [I]'ve spotted include Mushu and Chesire Cat) (5/10)

Epcot

*** Future World

If it's your birthday, go to Guest Relations (next to Spaceship Earth) and they can tell you if one of the characters has a special phone message for you (they will direct you to the appropriate phone in the park) (2/10).

In Spaceship Earth in Epcot, there are two figures that are the same as those in the Hall of Presidents: the sleeping monk is the likeness of Woodrow Wilson & the large bald slave in the Egyptian scene is the likeness of William Taft. (3/10)

*** World Showcase

At Mexico there is a station where you can create and mail video postcards. To the right of Mexico is a tropical garden (2/10).

The Viking ship next to the Norway pavilion has been removed; it had deteriorated and became a safety hazard for persons sneaking on board (2/09).

One area at Norway is a seafaring museum (2/10).

Sometimes between showings of the film in China, a performer will come into the ante-room with a stringed lute like instrument called the "pi-pah" (pea pa) that he sets horizontally in front of him. He plays it with picks on all five fingers of one hand giving a very exquisite "did did did did did did" performance (5/10).

Sometimes at American Adventure a choral group does an a'capella number with some of the members doing accompaniment with a "yum yum yum yum" sound imitating banjos (5/10).

Inside  the rotunda ceiling (Temple of Heaven) at China, depending on where you stand, you may be able to hear your echo (2/10).

There is a green bowl in the back of one of the shops in China. It has water in it. When you rub the handles just right the water dances and looks like it's coming from the carved fish around the edges (2/10).

Sometimes musicians perform in the rotunda while you wait to enter the theater. One instrument played is the pi-pa, a lute like instrument strummed with picks on all five fingers of one hand (2/10).

At the Outback (between China and Germany), sometimes there is a wood carver or a person playing African drums (2/10).

Take your younger kids (toddler through elementary school) to see the Fife and Drum Corp at American Adventure. During the show, the kids may have a chance to lead the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance (2/10).

Try the Kaki Gori at Japan. Delicious.

Try the chocolate mousse served at the cafe at France (2/10).

Disney-Hollywood Studios

(Disney's license to use the MGM name has expired.)

The date for the opening of the park (5/1/89) is on the gasoline pump near the park entrance (if you get up close and look at the numbers).

If you have an artist in the family, s/he might be interested in the character drawing sessions held at the Animation Tour at the back right of Hollowood Studios. (Sessions are also held at Disney Quest in Downtown Disney.) (3/10)

After the sea battle show that starts off the Backstage Tour you are guided through a room with props from many past Disney movies. You can ask a CM to let you linger there and join the tram tour with the next group, or you can ask to go back there after your tram tour (4/10).

Someone said that the (Aerosmith) musical selections played during the Rock & Roller Coaster ride are different for each limousine (coaster train). He described that, as the ride ends, if you were hearing "Love In An Elevator", the lyrics include "Life In A Roller Coaster (5/10)."

Animal Kingdom

Exotic birds can be seen on the little trail near Tree of Life (Africa side).

As your Expedition Everest coaster takes you up the steep hill climb, you will be able to see parts of Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Disney Hollywood Studios in the distance (2/09).

During Dinosaur, the cars bounce over a big bump in the track. The big bump is a tail of a long neck saltosaurus, who then turns around to look at you and if you sit on the back two rows, it throws you around a little more then the front two rows. (3/10)

Blizzard Beach

Resorts

If you stand in a resort lobby on Wednesdays between 8 and noon, the WDW florists come in and change the flowers. You can get some of the old ones! (3/10)

Above a fireplace at the Boardwalk Inn main lobby is a carved elephant with windows in its side. It represents the 15 story high 43 room Elephant Hotel with circular stairways in its legs that graced Coney Island in New York City a hundred years ago (5/10).

[I] think it's at the Boardwalk, in the rooms there are postcards that are printed on the curtains. Those are real postcards that were used in years past and have different people's messages on them (5/10).

Exit from the right rear of the Wilderness Lodge main lobby and wind your way down a covered walkway to visit the lobby of the Villas section. It feels like a rather large log cabin and everywhere you turn, there's something interesting to been seen...like animal carvings on the end of the logs in the lobby structure (5/10).
