Selected "Hidden Mickeys" at Walt Disney World

At a certain time (varies with season) a tall light pole at Magic Kingdom's Indy Speedway casts a shadow which is the likeness of Mickey Mouse's head on the ground.

This is an example of a "hidden Mickey", or the llikeness of Mickey Mouse made out of architectural features or plantings or visual effects, intentionally created but not meant to be an overt portrait or likeness of Mickey. Typically it consists of three circles that still blend with the surroundings and are juxtaposed to suggest Mickey's face and ears. Sometimes it could be a curved line that suggests Mickey's head profile. Some are so subtle that long debates have taken place as to whether their creators intended to put Mickey's face there. Many books and lists have been published on the subject. One list has been obtainable at Epcot's Guest Relations to the left of Spaceship Earth as you enter the park.

There are also "hidden Donalds" (for Donald Duck), "hidden Walts" for Walt Disney himself, etc.

Magic Kingdom (MK) Hidden Mickeys

Out Front

This area is being refurbished for your future enjoyment (7/23/07)

Entrance and Main St.

General

Adventureland

At Jungle Cruise, a profile hidden Mickey is present as an impression in the concrete work just before entering the queue. It was put there during the 2000 rehab. It is off to the right before the main entrance. You can see it better as a puddle after it rains. Look at the truck parked at the entrance. The spare tire has been placed on the front over the radiator and the two headlights line up as Mickey ears. On the ride, as you are coming to the end of the Cambodian temple, on the left side there are areas of the wall that look like it's been worn away. One of these worn away areas is Minnie in profile.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Look at the entire lock, not just the keyhole, at the dog/jail scene to see the hidden Mickey,

Cinderella Castle

In the MK if you go to the Partners Statue in the circle in front of the castle and look at the ring on Walt's hand, you will see a hidden Mickey.

Fantasyland

In the jungle room of It's a Small World, there are purple vines that are all hidden Mickey's put together. [I ]believe in the African Section, right above the giraffe on the right side of the boat there are some leaves. One leaf is in the shape of Mickey's silhouette. Also look for a vine hanging from the ceiling that is shaped like Mickey instead of leaves. In the Australia scene there is a kangaroo bobbing back and forth and the shadow of it on the wall makes a hidden Mickey. Also a long narrow hidden Mickey banner draped from the ceiling between two of the rooms, [I] forget which room.

In the restaurant right next to It's a Small World, one of the chairs in there has a Mickey head carved into the back.

Going through Neverland on Peter Pan's Flight, there are some mermaids, sunning themselves on the rocks, [I] like it was to our right as [we] went past it. Anyway, one of them looks just like Ariel (7/07).

In Mickey's Philharmagic, once you have sat down, but before the show starts, look to the right of the "stage". There are musical instruments going down the wall. Look closely at the tubing on the French Horn -- you will see Mickey.

Here's a hard one: In Snow White's Scary Adventure Mickey is hiding on the mural. He's by the flowers! Not so hard: inside, look at the laundry hanging out to dry. One pair of shorts has Mickey polka dots.

In Winnie the Pooh's Adventure see a hidden Mickey on the wall to the right (fastpass side) where the fastpass line meets the regular line.

The 100 Acre Woods playground across from the Pooh ride. If you go inside the tree and look above the door facing the Pooh ride, there is a hidden Mickey in the rocks

Frontierland

On Big Thunder Mt .Railroad, just before the ride ends, on the right hand side on the ground are three interlocking round gears, one large, two small, in the shape of a Mickey head. Exiting from Big Thunder, behind the fence (on the left side as you exit the ride), between two metal carts and behind a cactus is a cutout in the reddish rock that resembles a side profile of Tinker Bell.

In Splash Mountain look for a tiny hidden Mickey on a barrel (where the paint looks like it oozed down the side) right before your first (small) drop. Also, there is a scene before the big dive where there is a character fishing, If you look at his bait float (the red and white balls) they are glued together like Mickey's ears. The opening of the top cave of Splash Mountain (the one you exit as you take the final plunge) is a hidden Mickey. It is noticable from inside the cave and also from outside. It is profile shaped, not the traditional face and ears

Liberty Square

In the Hall of Presidents, look at the picture near the entrance of the viewing hall. In this picture is George Washington holding a sword. Look at the bottom of the sword.

When you first step into the Haunted Mansion, before entering the stretch rooms, look closely at the picture frames, the design is a bunch of hidden Mickeys.

During the Haunted Mansion ride, see two hidden Donalds embroidered in chairs: one by piano with shadow and one by hallway with floating candlelabra. Towards the end of the grave yard (inside) there is a ghost in a window type thing holding some keys well the key holder, [I] guess you would say it is indeed a hidden Mickey! There's a large spider whose body looks like a Mickey head.

Tomorrowland

[I] like the Hidden Mickey in Buzz Lightyear. In the very last room where you are still able to shoot, look forward at the top left corner, there's a planet with Mickey on it. The planet is blue, if that helps you any.

There is hidden Stitch in a space ship in the mural as you exit Buzz Lightyear. He's very very tiny.

In Carousel of Progress, there's a hidden Walt in the daughter's room in the 1940's (3'rd room). It's on the wall you are facing as you sit, in the upper left corner.

In Carousel of Progress, in the last room  (Christmas) and on the top of a cup, the lid is a hidden Mickey. An abstract Mickey Mouse as the Sorcerer's apprentice from Fantasia is in a painting on the dining room wall. One of the Christmas presents under the tree (near the grandfather's chair) is wrapped in red and white paper, but has a large classic Mickey head cut out of green paper glued to the side of the gift. A pepper grinder on the kitchen counter has Mickey ears. A classic Mickey appears (just for a few seconds!) on the top of a spaceship in the middle of the television screen. Look for it just as the game starts on the TV, before Grandma starts playing. There is a hidden Mickey in the abstract painting on the wall. Also a Mickey nutcracker on the mantel.

In Space Mountain, in the last Red star picture as you walk up the ramp in line, three white stars form the shape of a classic Mickey toward the middle left side of the picture.

In Tomorrowland, on one of the pieces of cement in a corner is a little Mickey. It was put there when they were laying the cement by one of the workers. [I] know it is towards Indy Speedway. It is only about an inch and a half big and may sometimes be covered by the Disney Vacation Club cart. Also a larger one near one of the stability pillars for Astro Orbiter, on the Space Mountain side..

Epcot Hidden Mickeys-- Future World

While riding Soarin', look quickly at the golf ball that is shot toward you at the golf course. It has Mickey Mouse on it.

On Soarin', near the end of the movie when the fireworks are on the screen, three of the fireworks create a hidden Mickey!

In Epcot at the store Mouse Gears look at the sign for that store you will also see a hidden Mickey.

Riding the Living With the Land boat, watch for the lab set up on the right near the end of the ride. There is a bunch of green test tubes in the shape of Mickeys head in the test tube holder on the far right.

Epcot Hidden Mickeys-- World Showcase

There is a secret on the Viking Ship Ride at Epcot in Norway. As you are waiting to board, look closely at the painting of the Viking Ship on the wall and you will find Mickey on the ship.

Don't miss the Viking Longboat play structure. Not a true playground, but the kids really enjoy it. It is easy to miss if you dismiss it as a decoration in the distance (11/07).

On the back side of the train garden in Germany there is a building that sort of looks like a old castle. On the top floor of the castle there is a small Mickey with the Wizards hat on. The train garden is also decorated for the season, for example with Christmas decorations.

Disney-Hollywood Studios Hidden Mickeys

At Tower of Terror look for the famous silhouette of three circles along the balcony railing just before you enter the building. On the Concierge desk as you enter, some drinking glasses may be arranged as a hidden Mickey. In the library show TV clip, the bell for the elevator above Rod Serling's head also bears a resemblance to those famous mouse ears. Also, after the library show, look for a water stain on the wall in the boiler room. During the ride, when the elevator doors open the first time onto the long hallway if you look up slightly you will see a kind of doorway overhead with a hidden Mickey (said to be unofficial) right in the dead center. In the fifth dimension scene (one group of elevators only?), the swirling stars form a Hidden Mickey just before they disappear.

There is a hidden Mickey on the Rock'n Roller Coaster in the recording studio. If you look to your right on the floor, the sound cables are coiled in the shape of Mickey.

There's a huge hidden mickey in Rock 'n Roller Coaster that you can't see but after riding several times you may feel it. It's part of the ride's tracks.

If you stand by the Sorcerer's Hat, you'll be standing on the largest hidden Mickey in all of Walt Disney World.

Look at the statue at Mama Melrose's Ristorante, the one at the door. It is a statue with cherub and two dalmation pups. There is a hidden Mickey on one of the pups.

On the Great Movie Ride, in the James Cagney scene, keep an eye to the left wall. You'll notice a poster torn at the bottom with another layer visible. Yup, you're looking at Mickey's shoes! As you go into the Indiana Jones room, don't look at Indy. Observe the wall to your left. Just before you leave the room, you'll see a hieroglyph depicting Mickey and Donald. It's in the last row of blocks before you exit that room, about halfway up the wall. Also you can find R2D2 and C-3PO from Star Wars, and other Disney stuff interspersed. Look for the Minnie profile in the Hollywood Hills background as you return back to the loading area (best seen from the back vehicle). Sometimes a kind CM will point it out to you with a flashlight if you ask.

At the Lights, Motors, Action! stunt show, there is a clothesline at the top of one of the buildings (during the show, there is a stunt jump from there). One of the items of clothing on the line has Mickeys!

Have you seen the hidden Minnie in the mural in the loading/unloading area of the Great Movie Ride?

Disney's Animal Kingdom (AK) Hidden Mickeys

On the Kilimanjaro Safari the pond that all the flamingos are in is shaped like Mickey!

Look for the 'Mickey' sheep at Affection Section at Conservation Station --instead of a number ID, she has a Mickey clippered into her coat

There are Mickeys hiding all over the colorful mural at the entrance to the main building at Rafiki's Planet Watch. Look for them in the eyes of the animals and the wings of butterflies. There is a ostrich head and the pupil of it's eye is a hidden Mickey. [I] took a picture of it and put it in my scrapbook and when [I ]show it to people they are amazed, everyone always says, "[I ]thought that was a real ostrich!"

In Primeval Whirl  (Dino-Land) There are hidden Mickeys in the asteroids.

(end of Animal Kingdom section)

Downtown Disney (DD; DTD)

[I] went into the xmas shop in DTD and in the very last room where they do the embroidery if you look up and the ceiling the rafters look like lattice work. If you look carefully you will see hidden Mickeys in it.

Disney Quest has a hidden Mickey on the 5th Floor at Alien Invasion. Look up if you are standing in front of Pod 4

****************

Blizzard Beach (BB)

There is a hidden Mickey at the Lodge (look up about 7-8 feet on the fireplace between the windows)

If you ride the ski lift and look down there is a perfect hidden Mickey in the stones below your feet.

Walt Disney World Resorts

As you enter the Beach Club entrance and walk along the hall by the indoor restaurant (can't remember the name right now), there are sandcastles in glass on the wall, the first one has a mickey in it. If you wish to photograph it, you would want to try several viewing angles so shadows cast by the details in the sand stand out.

At the Boardwalk registration area, as you are standing at the desk, the wall to your right has blue plates hanging there for decoration, there are two sets that are Mickey shaped.

[We] stayed at Coronado Springs, [my] husband took a picture of the seal on the wall, in the lobby, at the end of the registeration where you check in, above the childrens play area, and on the picture, you can see a perfect hidden Mickey made out of the lights shining on it.

At the Polynesian Resort, in the morning the beach sweeper sometimes leaves huge hidden Mickey designs raked into the sand on the beach. In order to view these, you need to be there before a lot of people have walked on the beach.

One of the neatest ones [I] have found is in the lower lobby of the Polynesian. It is made of stone and set in the floor near the front door.

There is a hidden Mickey among all the circle of bamboo (or some kind of wood) as you are going up the stairs to the second floor of the Polynesian to the restaurants. The 'Ohana character breakfast is great -I've done it three times now.

Outside Walt Disney World

Coming up from Tampa on I-4, on the left side a mile or so before the World Drive interchange that takes you right into WDW, you'll see a high tension pole with a frame in the shape of a Mickey head outline. (The wires are mounted outside the circles, not passing through.)
