Utah senator Mitt Romney might gather together a band of Republican senators to convict President Trump following impeachment just to get their names into history books or because they think it would be funny.

The New England Patriots should announce three or four "newscasts" in the stadium during home games. The might begin with something like "MSNBC got it all wrong:" or "Fake news from CNN." There would be just a few sentences describing what the main stream media broadcast but not making direct quotations. A few true statements would follow. The announcements would run about 60 seconds or a little more. Taking after the late news commentator Paul Harvey, some of the announcements could end with "And now you know, the rest, of the story."

It's Tough To Be A White Boy

Dress up like Donald Trump for Halloween and get beat up by others who hate the president. Dress up like Barack Obama and get beat up for racist behavior like putting on blackface.

Equal Treatment For the Sexes

Some high school alumni gave the school a gift earmarked to provide a new scoreboard for the baseball field. The school delayed installing it until money could be found to put up a comparable scoreboard for the (girls') softball field.

Provided that the outfield dimensions were roughly the same for both fields the school officials could consider the following:

Part 1: Carve out additional dirt infield space so the (boys') baseball field would be compatible with softball. Boys and girls would share this field although the hardball team would have priority in case of conflicts.

Part 2: Carve out additional dirt area in the shallow outfield so the softball field would be compatible with hardball. Now, conflicts for use of the fields could be resolved equitably using such means as flipping a coin.

Driving While Black

Imagine the following encounter:

Police officer pulls over a motorist. After the usual conversation and possible argument it should go something like this,

Officer: "I didn't realize you were black until after I stopped you. So far we have stopped too many black folks compared with other folks. So this is what I will do." (He pulls out a spinner similar to a miniature Wheel Of Fortune but with only three equal sized pie slices) "Please choose one: A, B, or C."

Motorist: "I choose A."

Officer: "Okay, please spin the wheel. If the pointer lands on A then I give you a violation ticket. If it lands on B or C then you are free to go. Fair enough?"

Digging a Hole

Wayne M. buried a "shipping container" about 20' long and 8' wide and 8' high in his back yard. He added an entrance stairway and some of the features of a 1960's era fallout shelter.

Some questionable items (except for the fallout shelter purpose)

* He had a 6 inch concrete slab poured on top for the ground level surface. This would add unnecessary weight requiring unusual structure and framing below as well as increase the chance of the container's settling and becoming not level.

* He filled most of the interior with storage shelves, leaving very little "living space."

Airplane Laser Defense

(refined from an article I read)

Lasers aimed from the ground endanger pilots and disrupt air travel.

Ultra high resolution photographs of the ground ahead and below, compasrable to Google Earth photos should be taken from the air along commercial airline flight paths. These phoptos would be analyzed so streets, buildings, and other landmarks below would be identified and stored in a data base.

Airliners would be equipped with similar cameras and laser detectors. Should a laser beam from the ground ahead be sensed, the onboard camera takes ome or more pictures. These pictues and the airplane's location (using GPS data) are immediately trammitted to a ground station which has access to the data base. Landmark matching is done to greatly narrow down on the address from which the laser beam was emitted or shot, and police dispatched to that location.

Social Media Can Help, Not Hurt

Social media such as Facebook and Twitter have been asked to screen information for possible communication of threats to the national security.

Instead, information should not be screened and removed. Then more information could be intercepted by law enforcement to help track down persons who pose a threat.
