Get Rich Schemes

Two examples are Takl and Amazon Flex. There are others like them also. Why do we call them schemes? Because a lot of folks who sign up to do them won't make much money and may even end up spending more money then they take in while trying to keep up.

Takl engages independent persons (free-lancers) to do chores such as lawn mowing or even small skilled jobs such as fixing a light switch. Amazon engages independent persons to make the final delivery of their packages from distribution centers (like warehouses) to the final addresses. Both tasks suffer from the same problems: parking, and traffic. For Takl you may need to bring tools and supplies in your car. A deceiving job that one Amazon Flex driver got was to deliver about 50 packages to one address, but it was necessary to go back to the car to fetch the items ten or so at a time.

This writer suggests never parking illegally and not breaking any traffic laws or other laws. Instead the recipient might be contacted by cell phone upon arrival and told to come down and find parking or you would leave without doing the job or without completing the delivery. (If there were just one or two packages, the recipient could come down and unload the packages and take them upstairs himself.) Maybe Takl or Amazon Flex would terminate you after so many uncompleted assignment. If so, no great loss. This job was not for you.

Amazon Flex comes at just the right time for Amazon to offload that part of their deliveries onto unsuspecting independent persons and not have to pay parking fines itself. In the past five years, traffic and parking have become noticeably more difficult in large and medium sized cities. And fines have increased, too.

Steamy. Not Toasty

"Toasty" is not a good word to describe hot humid weather. "Toasty" suggests dryness. In hot humid weather everyone is sweaty and wet. "Steamy" is a much better word.

Dental Floss Problems

If it hurts when you floss your teeth then you are doing it all wrong.

Do not pull or snap the floss down (or up) into the spaces between your teeth. Instead slide the floss horizontally, into and out of your mouth, so the floss goes down (or up) between the teeth slowly.

You need to start with a piece of dental floss 18 inches (45 cm) long. It is okay to use it more than once. If the floss gets frayed or shredded or if it breaks when you are using it then you need to buy a different brand of floss.

Illegal Aliens in the News

After a volcanic eruption in El Salvador, six children badly burned by lava together with five pairs of additional helping hands were airlifted to Texas and checked in at a Shriners hospital. "We own them until they are 18," a hospital spokesperson said. Shriners hospitals provide free medical care for those unable to afford it. This writer believes that the children should remain in or near the hospital until they are fully healed and further medical attention is no longer suggested. It would not be a good idea to send them home sooner with "plenty of" supplies since the latter could be spoiled or plundered resulting in long term failure of the expensive medical care the children received and a huge insult to the Shriners horpitals..

Is there a Shrine football game near where you live? It features top high school players from the area and proceeds benefit the hospitals. Attend the game and see strong legs run so that someday the weak legs of these children may someday walk again in El Salvador.

One of the great divides in the U.S. is whether a set of international laws or maybe a set of Western Hemisphere laws should have priority oover U.S. law. We should be aware of bad consequences of international law. One problem with international law is that you could lose your home to crime overseas. Someone could forge your signature and sell your house out from under you and put a mortgage on it.. Internation law or treaty might protect a foreign bank forcing you to pay off the mortgage loan that you never approved. Meanwhile the U.S. has better consumer protection laws than most of the world. Under nationalizm a bank including a foregin bank may have to cancel a mortgage loan ,and seek out the fraudster who borrowed the money, or go without being repaid.

In the same way that schools have been providing subsidized lunch and sometimes breakfast to children, the school is an excellent headquarters for child abuse screening, although some methods may be politically incorrect.

One method is very straightforward. We photograph every square inch of the child's body. Since we don't have any known examples ,we will start with some experimentation. We might start with full height front, back, left, and right views. Should a pattern be found where problems are missed with certain parts of the body, closer up photographs of those parts could be added for all children.

The photographs are saved and new screening done every so often. To save space in filing cabinets or computer storage, all but the last three screenings may be discarded if there were no problems found.

The same information can be used for skin cancer screening although this problem is rare for young children.
